It is intended for dassroom work with a teacher but it could also be used for self-study by lawyers wishing to enrich the professional uocabulary. Although the titles o f the chapters suggest couerage of topics of great substance and complexity, this textbook does not attempt to explore these topics in detail. It merely sets down some of the basie rules, mechanisms and terminology. This course book is not a legal handbook and cannot prouide exhaustive coyerage of legal topics. Many areas of law are not included, and those which arę prouide oniy a foundation for further study. For the sake of linguistic purposes there arę certain simplistic formulations in some areas o f law. Lack of consistency in terminology, especially in exercises, is due to autkom desire to comprise regional differences, as they arę in use in English speaking countries. The authors wish to conuey their warmest thanks to Ms Olivia Brindle for her invaluable linguistic support.
