OPIS
The "Relevance Studies in Poland" series accommodates selected papers written by the participants of the biennial conference "Interpreting for Relevance: Discourse and Translation" held in Kazimierz Dolny. This volume consists of two parts. Part I presents papers dealing with translation problems, such as rendering biblical texts in contemporary languages, cultural barriers, omissions, proper names, and requirements of legal translation. Part II covers a number of miscellaneous topics: humour, situational irony, interpretation of metaphor and hyperbole, society-conditioned preferences for implicit communication, impoliteness in political discourse, word formation seen as ad hoc concept development, mental representations in blind children, and the exploitation of metaphorical imagery in poetry.
